Bindweed
Convolvulus arvensis
Basketry
Alice Fox uses bindweed to make intricate art baskets and sculptures out of bindweed gathered from her garden. Some of her bindweed pieces are on display at Jagged Art.
Kim Winter has produced a large sculpture of floating bindweed pods as part of an exhibit called Rebound.
Cordage
Bindweed can be used to make cordage. The outer skin is best stripped off to leave only the stronger fibres. Once stripped, leave the fibres to fully dry before rehydrating them to twine.
Sometimes you can find the fibres left over from previous years that has already been stripped of the outer layer and ready to twine!
